Suitcase Science

Members of the P-Mag Lab are active in K-6 outreach activities, including “suitcase” lessons. Funded by a NSF grant and developed by CEOAS researchers and elementary school teachers, these lessons are designed to spark an interest in science in the minds of elementary school students. Sarah Strano has taken an active role in this outreach activity and has led lessons demonstrating the importance of icebergs and sea-ice in several Corvallis classrooms. Through hands on experiments, kids learn about the differences between icebergs and sea ice, and their effects on sea level. For details about this and other suitcase lessons, see educators section of the CEOAS website.

Sarah teaches about the sea-ice cycle at a Corvallis elementary school.
